Kochi: The Confederation of Indian Industry has urged the state government to ease the procedures for doing business. “With the decentralisation of local bodies’ powers, licences to industries could be issued at panchayat level. But when it comes to industrial or pollution-related issues, the officers at regional level could not take decisions though they are qualified enough. The issue was brought to the attention of the government which is considering certain systems to decentralise the powers in other departments also so as to ease the business climate in the state,” CII Kerala state council chairman Hari Krishnan Nair said.
The CII leaders earlier called on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and discussed various matters.
CII (Southern region) chairperson Rajshree Pathy told reporters here that the future plans of CII in Kerala include promoting ‘Make in Kerala’ brand agricultural products, carrying out vendor development programmes and offering training to entrepreneurs. “We are also offering platforms for start-up to link with prospective investors,” she said.
CII (southern region) deputy chairman Ramesh Datla said the upcoming Vizhinjam port would give a major boost to industries. “Supply chain logistics is a bottleneck for industrial growth, he said.
