For one bride, her marriage went kaput the moment she washed the makeup off her face. A man in Algeria was so shocked on seeing his wife without makeup the next day after the wedding that he reportedly he dragged her to court on charges of fraud.
The man, after waking up on the morning after his wedding, could not believe that woman sans makeup next to him was his bride. Apparently unable to recognise her, he even started accusing her of being a thief, before begrudging admitting that she was the same woman he had married the day before.
Claiming that he thought his wife looked “very beautiful and attractive before marriage”, he said that he felt frightened seeing her bare face and was left deeply distressed and cheated by the experience. In fact the Emirates 247 even reported that man was now suing his spouse for an amount as high as $20,000 (£13,000) in damages for the psychological pain he had suffered.
