Mock poll to familiarise MEVM at Kadalundi

The mock poll is being conducted to create awareness among voters about the new EVMs

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode district administration will conduct a mock poll in Kadalundi Grama Panchayat ahead of the three-tier civic elections, which is set to create another historic chapter in Indian elections with the use of multi-post electronic voting machines (MEVM) for the first time in the country.

The mock poll is being conducted to create awareness among voters about the new EVMs.

Meanwhile, the first phase of inspections of the voting machines was started at the Civil Station in the presence of political party representatives.

The new EVMs allow the voter to cast their vote in three tiers of the local bodies at a time.

The ballot can also be counted simultaneously. The votes are cast on detachable memory modules. Instead of control units, these modules are kept in treasuries for counting purpose after being sealed.

The inspection of the voting machines will continue for a week. Engineers from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited will supervise the inspection.
