An Army naik was caught for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl

HYDERABAD: Several locals and passersby gathered near Thimmaya Lines gates soon after an Army naik was caught for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl. According to an eyewitness, Army personnel attacked the locals with sticks and took the accused away.
The crowd dispersed from the area after the local police came to the spot and calmed them down. Civilians, most of them housemaids and servants living in the Army compound, say that it's not safe for women in the area. "We have been living here for a while. But since it is deserted, it's not safe for women," a civilian said. In 2013, three Army men had been arrested for molesting a 17-year-old girl near Mahindra Hills.
Soldier was drunk, says mother:
An Army Naik allegedly tried to rape a 14-year-old girl when she and her sister were returning to their home in RK Puram near the Army quarters on Saturday night. The victim’s mother, who works as a maidservant at an Army Major’s house in the Army compound at Thimmaya Lines, alleged that the naik was drunk and he tried to throw her daughter into the bushes after punching her and suffocating her.
“He tore my daughter’s clothes and punched her in the stomach. He lifted her up and tried to throw her over a wall inside a deserted compound in this area. He was trying to sexually assault her,” she told DC.
The victim and her 12-year-old sister were coming back home from a medical shop inside the Army compound at Thimmaya Lines gate after 9.30 pm on Saturday. “We were walking home when a bike came and stopped near us. He asked us where we were going at this hour. When we said we are going home, he got down from the bike and caught my sister’s hand and started dragging her. He covered her mouth with his hands, and when I screamed for help, he throttled me,” said the victim’s younger sister, whose shouts alerted locals.
“When I tried to free my sister, he beat me again. He took a stone and hit me on my head,” said the injured girl. The girls were screaming for help for around two minutes. Meanwhile, he lifted my daughter and tried to throw her into the deserted compound. However, two people who were passing by came to help the kids. As soon as he saw them, he left the girl and tried to run away,” said the victim’s mother. More people arrived at the spot and caught hold of the accused. After a scuffle, the local police arrived at the area. However, Army officials intervened in the matter and took the accused inside without revealing his full identity.
The injured victims were taken to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. Police have booked a case against the suspect under IPC sections 376 read with 511 (attempt to rape), 354 and 354 A (molestation) with Criminal Amendment Act, 2013 and two sections under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. “We have started a probe into the incident. The arrest will be made when the accused is handed over to us officially,” said Trimulgherry Inspector R.S Raju.
