Nellore: Bid to hasten Aadhaar seeding

Electoral officials of Nellore are in a fix over updating electoral rolls
Nellore: As many as 2.42 lakh voters are likely to be deleted from the electoral rolls of Nellore and rural assembly segments if they fail to apply for transfer of their vote to the place where they shifted. Nearly 1.5 lakh are not living in the address shown and the balance is door locked cases.
In fact, a whopping 5,49,116 voters are found under the shifted/door locked category in 10 assembly segments of Nellore district during a recent exercise carried out by booth level officials (BLOs) for linking Aadhaar with voter ID and verifying the voters list.
The highest under the category was 1.22 lakh in Nellore rural segment and 1.19 lakhs in Nellore city. Of the total 22,72,516 voters in the district, the BLO teams verified count was 22,70,697 voters, including the 5.49 lakh shifted/door locked voters. Among those available, 1,50,244 voters have not obtained Aadhaar cards.
Senior officials of revenue department said that those shifting houses should leave their phone number and new address with the neighbours to enable BLOs to contact them to update the electoral list and seeding with Aadhaar.
The officials also advised such voters to apply through Form 8A if the shifting in the same constituency or Form 6 if they moved to a different constituency by mentioning the previous address to the Electoral Registration Officer through BLOs.
They can also apply through election commission website http://ceoandhra.nic.in but the ID generated after submitting the application should be given to BLOs to enable them verify and process the same.
For the benefit of those not having Aadhaar cards, mobile teams have been deployed in all mandals to speed up the Aadhaar/voter ID seeding. As of now 16 mandals are being covered by the mobile teams in the first phase and it will be extended to all the 46 mandals in the district.
Meanwhile, the EC has directed the BLOs to re-verify the shifted/door locked cases as the number is very huge. The EC has set August 31 as the deadline for the exercise.
