Co-operative Housing society men stumped by K Chandrasekhar Rao

Hyderabad: The House panel probing irregularities in Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing Society, Filmnagar Co-operative Housing society is planning to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Some panel members were stumped by Mr Chandrasekhar Rao making light of irregularities in Filmnagar Co-operative housing society at a film function and certain film personalities trying to take advantage of it. Sources say the House panel headed by Wardhannapet legislator Aroori Ramesh is finding the going tough due to bigwigs ruling the roost at housing societies being under scanner and officials dragging their feet in providing information, especially original and existing layout plan, list of official allottees and present possessors of plots, misuse of plots for commercial purposes among others.

Congress MLC and panel member P. Sudhakar Reddy told this newspaper that BJP MLA C. Ramachandra Reddy and few other members are planning to meet Chief Minister and seek his cooperation in ensuring speedy probe in the two major housing societies besides others and stringent action against erring society members.

“Prima facie there are grave irregularities in Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing Society, Filmnagar Co-operative housing society and others under probe. CM’s comments shocked us. He may have said it to please film industry, but the fact remains several bigwigs are on the wrong side of the law in the housing societies,” Mr Reddy remarked.

To a question, he said the panel would visit the two societies and others once again in the first or second week of August. The panel which visited Jubilee Hills housing society found illegal constructions unabated. GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar who accompanied them was also surprised at the blatant violation of rules. BJP Khairtabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy recorded his displeasure with the officials for turning a blind eye to irregularities.

“Government allotted 1,394 acres of land to Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing society at the rate of Rs 200 per acre for housing purposes. Instead of houses, Petrol pumps, guest houses, commercial complexes have sprung up,” he told officials.

According to Sudhakar Reddy, the panel found that families of several bigwigs in the Jubilee Hills society including some former office bearers holding two to eight plots each against the norms. “We have list of such people and we will recommend action. But the problem is the probe is going slowly. Unless CM steps in, things will drag on,” he remarked.
