Classrooms to get Rs 1.14-crore upgrade in Elathur

The software will have the storage capacity for more than 85,000 academic-related notes

KOZHIKODE: All schools in the Elathur Assembly constituency in the district will get hi-tech classrooms under a project using the MLA fund.

At least Rs 1.14 crore has been set aside from the MLA’s asset management fund for the Smart-Classroom project being implemented in association with Keltron.

The package includes software containing academic content, touchscreens, interactive whiteboards, computers, a video projector and smartboards.

“All schools from upper primary to higher secondary level, irrespective of government, aided or unaided, will be covered by the project,” said A.K. Sasheendran MLA.

“The project envisages equipping the schools with the latest technology thereby heralding a remarkable progress in the academic field. A unit for a school will cost Rs 2 lakh approximately”.

The software will have the storage capacity for more than 85,000 academic-related notes. Pupils will be taught making use of powerpoint presentations.

Keltron will conduct a training session in August to familiarise teachers with the functioning of smart classrooms.

Two teachers from each school will participate in the training programme. The legislator said the project would be implemented within three months.

Similar projects were successfully implemented in constituencies such as Thiruvananthapuram, Thrithala and Neyyattinkara.
