Told to explain change in NTR stadium master plan

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Telangana government to file an affidavit explaining its stand in changing the master plan for using the NTR stadium in the city for the construction of Telangana Kala Bharathi.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with the PIL by the Forum for a Better Hyderabad, represented by its secretary O.M. Debara of the city, seeking suspension of a GO issued on April 23, 2015, directing the GHMC to hand over the stadium to the department of culture for the proposed cultural centre
The petitioner’s counsel contended that the NTR Stadium was part of a recreation zone as shown in the Master Development Plan-2031 for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region. It was prepared by the HMDA and notified by the state government on January 24, 2013.
He brought to the notice of the court that no construction activity like the proposed buildings can be done unless the master plan is modified and the GHMC has no right to handover the NTR stadium to the state government.
Advocate general of Telangana K. Ramakrishna Reddy contended that there was no building for the state government to be used for official functions like Jubilee Hall and the government has proposed to construct the Kala Bharathi for various cultural activities and it would be like a convention centre.
When the advocate general said only eight of the 14 acres of the stadium will be used for Kala Bharathi and the rest will be earmarked for the playground for children, the bench asked him to file the affidavit with regard to change of the master plan in two weeks.
