For them, a ‘Kalam Day’

Students, too, have decided to dedicate their projects to the late former President

Farah College of Engineering and Technology, Chevella, will observe October 15, the day A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born, as Kalam Day. “A.P.J. Kalam had worked on a lot of projects that stand as an inspiration to the college’s Mechanical Engineering students. We hence decided to have a day dedicated to him and from this year, our Innovation Day will be called Kalam Day, which will be observed on October 15,” says Dr M. Anwarullah, principal of the college.

Students, too, have decided to dedicate their projects to the late former President as a mark of respect. Sanjay Kumar Singh, who is developing an environment-friendly Segway that will run on rechargeable batteries, along with his group, has named it Kalam’s Segway.

“A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was the Missile Man. He passed away while we are still developing our product. So as a mark of respect, we decided to name it after him. He always encouraged the youth of the country to go ahead and achieve something big. So we dedicated the project to our inspiration”, says Sanjay, a Final Year Mechanical Engineering student.

Another student, Rahul Pandey, who has developed a tiger robot, has named it Kalam’s Tiger Robot. He says, “Kalam always developed things that could be of help to the nation. We also wanted to develop something that would help the society and dedicate it to Kalam. Our future projects will also be on the same lines.”

Jitender Kumar Sharma, who developed Kalam’s Agricultural Quad Copter along with Nitesh Chand, says, “Besides aerodynamics, Kalam was also concerned about the country’s agri-based technologies. So we made a quad copter, which can check on irrigation, spray insecticides, check if any part of the land has been infested with insects etc. and decided to dedicate it to him. We have called it Kalam’s Agricultural Quad Copter.”
