Chennai: Man held for murdering wife

He strangles her after quarrel over his ‘affairs with women’
Chennai: A government employee working in Ooty was arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death over a quarrel on Monday while their children were away in suburban Madipakkam. The arrested was identified as D. Ramakrishnan, 47, son of a policeman.
According to police, on Monday, Ramakrishnan quarrelled with his wife Rajeswari and strangled her to death. He left the body in the house and walked out. Their children, Murali a plus-1 student and Sangeetha, a class 9 student returned from school to find her unconscious. They informed their uncle who came and took Rajeswari to hospital where the medical team said that she was brought dead on arrival. Later when Rajeswari’s brother confronted Ramakrishnan, the latter initially claimed he had nothing to do with the death of his wife. “She could have committed suicide,” he told the others.
Madipakkam police were informed about the death and when questioned by a police team, Ramakrishnan confessed to the crime.
Giving details about the background of the murder, police noted that Ramakrishnan and Rajeswari got married while they were working in a textile shop in Purusawalkam after a love affair 17 years ago. After his father’s death while in service, Ramakrishnan was given a job in the police department’s ministerial staff wing on compassionate grounds in Chennai. When Rajeswari came to know about his links with other women, she lodged a complaint at his office and he was transferred to Ooty.
He used to come every weekend to Chennai and return every Sunday night or Monday morning. On Monday, he told his children that he would be in Chennai for one more day. During the day, he had a fight with his wife and strangled her to death, police said.
