Telangana will give 12 per cent quota to Muslims, says K Chandrasekhar Rao

CM held meeting with ministers and officials to review minority issues

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said the TRS government was committed to providing 12 per cent reservations for Muslims in line with their population in the state as promised.

He said the government would take steps in this regard after the committee constituted by the government to study the socio economic conditions of Muslims submitted its report.

He held a meeting with ministers and officials at his camp office to review minority issues on Monday.

The CM said the government would adopt the reservation policies being followed in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in this regard. Deputy CM Mohd Mahmood Ali and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi were present at the meeting.

Mr Rao said, “It is painful to know that there are Muslim families in Telangana languishing in acute poverty and earn less than Rs 1,000 per month even today. This situation needs to be changed.”

The CM said the government had appointed a commission of inquiry few months ago to study the socio economic conditions of Muslims in TS and was awaiting the reports.

“The panel should visit some Asse-mbly seats in every district to know the ground reality. It should interact separately with Muslims in urban and rural areas. In addition, it should also take photographs and videos of their living conditions,” Mr Rao suggested.
