Farmers to meet PM on interlinking rivers

Chennai: Nearly 400 farmers from different parts of Tamil Nadu are set to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 31 to press the demand for interlinking rivers in the country.
Members on Monday evening held a demonstration at the Chennai Central station in support of their demands which included immediate action by both the State and the Central governments to look on interlinking rivers, increasing the procurement prices of agricultural produce and introducing a pension of '5000 per month for farmers, aged above 60.
Grouped under an organisation called ‘South Indian Rivers Interlinking Agricultural Farmers Association’, the members hailed from 25 districts across the state.
“We will be holding protest in front of Parliament in support of our demands,” said N. Ayyappan, association president.
