Punjab terror attack: Rajnath Singh orders BSF to immediately move forces to assist police

Home Minister speaks to CM Parkash Singh Badal and assures full support

New Delhi: In the wake of attack by terrorists in Gurudaspur on Monday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and assured him full central assistance to tackle the situation.

"I have spoken to the Punjab Chief Minister, who apprised me of the developing situation in Gurudaspur. Security forces have rushed to the spot," Singh, who is on way to Madhya Pradesh, said here.

The Home Minister said the central government is monitoring the situation and he was confident that the situation would be brought under control.

Singh also spoke to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Home Secretary L C Goyal and reviewed the situation in Gurudaspur where 3 to 4 suspected terrorists wearing Army uniforms opened fire at a bus and attacked a police station early today leaving at least seven persons injured.

Goyal also spoke to Punjab DGP and assured him full central assistance to tackle the situation.

The Home Minister ordered BSF to immediately move forces to Gurudaspur to assist police. He also instructed BSF to enhance vigil along the entire international border with Pakistan.

NSG commandos are likely rush to Punjab. Sources said immediate priority of the security forces is to neutralise the suspected terrorists.
