Godman Asaram Bapu’s ashram ransacked

The incident took place on Saturday night
Lucknow: The ashram of godman Asaram Bapu in Shahjahanpur district was found ransacked on Saturday night and several books were set on fire. The incident comes a day after Narayan Pandey, a follower of the godman, was arrested in connection with the murder of Kripal Singh, the main witness in Asaram rape case in Shahjahanpur earlier this month. Pandey also allegedly admitted to his role in the murder and was produced in the court and sent to jail.
According to DIG, Bareilly R.K.S. Rathore, the incident took place on Saturday night when the accused persons entered the ashram in Rudrapur village of Shahjahanpur district and ransacked his property, besides burning several books.
A case has been registered in this connection and three persons have been detained the DIG said. It may be recalled that in October 2013, the local residents had ransacked Asaram Bapu’s ashram in Rajasthan after a fresh sexual assault case was registered against him in Gujarat by two sisters.
