Heavy rush of pilgrims was registered at Dharmapuri and Kaleshwaram temple towns

KARIMNAGAR: Undeterred by the brief spell of rain and traffic snarls, pilgrims turned out in large numbers at various Pushkar ghats in Karimnagar district on Thursday, the tenth day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu.
Heavy rush of pilgrims was registered at Dharmapuri and Kaleshwaram temple towns. About 15 lakh devotees took holy dip at the ghats, as per district authorities. On Thursday, many places where ghats existed recorded moderate to heavy rainfall on from early morning. However, this could not dampen the spirit of the devotees, who converged at the ghats in large numbers to take part in the river fete.
Drenching in the rain, pilgrims continued to take holy dip on the banks of the river. The flow of Godavari swelled following the rains. Following the rain, Pushkar ghats became marshy at some places.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao, DGP Anurag Sharma and Manthani MLA Putta Madhu inspected the ghats in the temple town of Kaleshwaram. They interacted with the pilgrims and enquired them about the facilities provided. They directed officials to dump sand in front of temporary toilets where rainwater has stagnated to prevent inconvenience to the pilgrims.
Mr. Harish Rao said that over 3 crore devotees had taken dip at 106 ghats on the banks of river Godavari in Telangana. Pilgrims not only from Telangana, but also neighbouring places took holy dip at various bathing ghats.
According to information by the police, over 5 lakh devotees took holy dip in Dharmapuri, while Kaleshwaram saw 4 lakh pilgrims take bath. Other venues such as Manthani, Kotilingala, Godavarikhani, Sundilla, Bornavelli, Valgonda, Erdandi recorded about 6 lakhs of devotees taking holy bath at the ghats collectively from this morning.
