Telangana moves Supreme Court over separate Hyderabad High Court

Venugopalachary told the court that the Act’s 13th Schedule mandated that the Centre should establish a tribal university
Hyderabad: Special representative of the Telangana government Dr S. Venugopalachary, moved the Supreme Court in New Delhi on Wednesday seeking to declare the action of the Centre in not implementing the statutory promises and assurances given to the people of Telangana at the time of the bifurcation as illegal.
He had moved the Hyderabad High Court earlier and when it did not entertain the plea, he moved the apex court.
He submitted that as per Section 93 of the Act, the Centre should take all necessary measures for the progress and sustainable development of the successor states within a period of 10 years from the appointed day, but not a single step had been taken in this regard so far.
He told the court that the Act’s 13th Schedule mandated that the Centre should establish a tribal university and horticulture university in Telangana, and also that the Indian Railways, within six months from the appointed day, examine the feasibility of establishing a rail coach factory at Kazipet in Telangana and improve rail connectivity in the state.
He said that it was strange to note that the Centre had failed to implement these promises even after a year from the appointed day though the statutory prescription was to take action within six months.
HC seeks info on MP’s bail plea
Justice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday asked the AP public prosecutor to get instructions from the police regarding the bail plea by former Congress MP G.V. Harsha Kumar.
Mr Kumar had been arrested on July 11 and sent to judicial remand. Mr Kumar had gone on a fast, demanding the state government to address the long-pending Christian burial sites issue in Rajahmundry city.
Police said he had threatened to commit suicide and fired two rounds in the air from his revolver to thwart the police when they tried to shift him to a hospital in view of his deteriorating health.
The former MP had moved bail contending his arrest as illegal. The judge posted the case to July 28 and told the prosecutor to place all facts before him.
