Three-wheelers road mishaps rising in Telangana

Most of these accidents took place in villages
Hyderabad: More lives are claimed in three-wheelers in Telangana than anywhere in the country. As many as 632 people, including 253 drivers, were killed in road mishaps involving three-wheelers in the state last year, according to NCRB data.
Most of these accidents took place in villages. Overloading, speeding, drunk driving, poor conditions of the vehicles were cited as the main reasons.
“Share autorickhaws are very common in villages, and all of them are overloaded at the peak hours. The fatalities will be much higher at such times,” said a senior traffic cop.
Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials said a major share of three-wheelers were not fit. Mechanical defects also causes a large number of accidents.
