Gang of 6 in SUV with murder mission held

Chennai: The city police on Friday arrested a gang of six men headed by a history-sheeter S. Jagan, 30, alias ‘Irattai Mattai’ from Washermanpet in Kundrathur when they were heading in an SUV with deadly weapons in Keluthipettai near Sriperumbudur.
The police seized seven sickles from the gang and the Toyota Innova in which they were travelling. The vehicle was intercepted early Friday morning by Kundrathur inspector during a vehicle check.
“The SUV was heading towards Keluthipettai from Sriperumbudur road when we intercepted the vehicle. During enquiry the occupants of the vehicle started giving contradictory statements,” he said.
Later, all of them were taken to police station where investigators found that Jagan was leading the team to kill a history-sheeter, the police said. Jagan faces as many as 30 cases including a double murder he committed in 2011. Following the double murder he got the name ‘Irattai Mattai’. He was booked under the Goondas Act half a dozen times.
