Ayukta scam: SIT questions officials

SIT officials also asked the number of CCTV cameras

Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing charges of in-house corruption in the Lokyaukta, on Friday spent three to four hours in the Registrar and the Assistant Registrar's (Enquiry) office and asked them about the names of officers, who were working in the Lokayukta, nature of their work and tenure; on how some officers were indefinitely posted to the Lokayukta on long tenure of more than 15 years.

The Joint Commissioner, Public Relations, Syed Riyaz, has been in the Lokayukta for more than 15 years. The SIT officials also asked the number of CCTV cameras, which have been installed in the Lokayukta office and why some of them were not working. "There is no CCTV footage of the meeting described by Executive Engineer M.N. Krishnamurthy with Krishna Rao alias Ashwin Y in the Lokayukta office. The cameras have not been working since February this year and the Registrar had written to the government on the matter. New CCTV cameras were installed on May 11, a week after the alleged meeting," said an official source.
