Congress discusses House strategy

Top leaders of the Congress on Tuesday discussed a strategy for the Monsoon Session of Parliament
New Delhi: Top leaders of the Congress on Tuesday discussed a strategy for the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning July 21 after realising that the government will find it difficult to gain mileage from the divided Opposition without making compromises with regional players inside and outside the NDA.
While scams, scandals and corruption in BJP-ruled Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra would be raised by the party, it will seek issue-based cooperation from the rest of the Opposition. The Trinamul Congress will oppose the controversial land bill while the AIADMK will not dilute its stand against the GST bill, viewed a Congress strategist.
The meeting, which was held at party chief Sonia Gandhi’s 10 Janpath residence, lasted for over an hour. The Congress, RJD, JD(U) and the Left will play the role of Opposition effectively but the Samajwadi Party, BSP, AAP and other smaller parties will take positions on the basis of issues.
Significantly, BJP ally Shiv Sena also predicted the session to be a stormy affair saying the BJP should take allies into confidence to chalk out a “strong” strategy to counter the Opposition attack on a range of issues.
