Control your own news feed

The new change as of now has been only rolled out only to iPhone users
Facebook just got more personal with the new announcement that one can prioritise their newsfeed as they wished. Prior to the new change Facebook users feed were played out as per the algorithm written into the social media network. But now users can prioritise friends and pages that they want to see on their wall.
The update also makes it easier to unfollow people by hiding them from your news feed. There’s also a new page for you to reconnect with those who you have hidden from your feed, should you want to.
Facebook users had been limited by its algorithm that meant the social network’s wiring decided what you would see on your wall. Facebook also had to face criticism from different quarters for the same but CEO Mark Zuckerberg justified the stance saying, “A squirrel dying in front of your house may be more relevant to your interests right now than people dying in Africa.”
Facebook’s news feed manager recently said that the new update would mean that users were likely to ‘miss out on a lot more important content.’ He went on to add, “Our whole mission is to show people content that we think that they find meaningful.”
“Our goal is to help you connect with the people and things you care about the most.” Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his blog.
As per statistics of 2014, Facebook directed links for a quarter of the traffic on the Internet and this new development could see Facebook gain more ground on the Internet users as it gets more personalised and narrowing down the likes and dislikes of its large database. The network’s decision to have a more transparent approach to what your feed has in store for you could prove to be a big move for Facebook in the long run.
The new change as of now has been only rolled out only to iPhone users. One needs to update the Facebook app on their iPhone and click on ‘News Feed Preferences’ and select ‘Prioritize Who to See First’ to decide what you want your feed to look like. Android and Desktop users will have to wait a while before the changes are extended to other platforms as well.
