Wait gets longer for Telangana Eamcet counselling

Eamcet counselling postponed as JNTU-H plans to appeal HC’s verdict in favour of private colleges

Hyderabad: Web counselling for the Telangana state Eamcet has been postponed again. The new counselling dates will be announced in a day or two.

This comes after the JNTU Hyderabad on Tuesday decided to appeal against the single judge order directing the varsity to include the 40-odd petitioner engineering colleges for counselling.

The JNTU-H will file an appeal before the division bench of the High Court on Tuesday. The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the JNTU-H to include the 40-odd petitioner colleges in the counselling process granting them temporary affiliation for now. However, the state government on Tuesday night decided to appeal against the judgement.

“The JNTU-H has decided to prefer an urgent appeal before the division bench of the High Court tomorrow. Accordingly, the request has been made by the University to the advocate general to that effect to take necessary steps for filing an appeal. We hope and trust that until appropriate stay orders are passed by the division bench of the High Court, the counselling authority will defer the counselling process,” JNTU-H registrar Prof. N.V. Ramana Rao said.

Telangana State Council of Higher Education, Chairman, Prof. T. Papi Reddy said that a new schedule for web counselling will be issued in a day or two.

Web options entry was to begin from July 8 but will not begin now. However, despite the delay, authorities said that the new schedule would be prepared in such a manner that the academic session begins by August 1, as mandated by the Supreme Court.

In its order on Tuesday, the Hyderabad HC ruled that the regional centre of the AICTE should depute a team to inspect for compliance of deficiencies pointed out by JNTU-H in respect of the institutions and submit a report to the varsity, which shall grant final approval for the current academic year.

The HC made it clear that AICTE’s exercise should be completed on or before July 20 to enable JNTU to communicate decision on final affiliation before the start of the academic year.
