I didn’t even go to B-school, look at my startup: Kiran Mazumdar Shaw

'I founded Bengaluru's first startup and today, this is the startup capital of the world'

Bengaluru: “Bhaskar Rao, who is in a position of power and influence, should step aside on his own so that an investigation can take place. That’s what I would do,” said Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw about the tainted Lokayukta.

She was speaking on the sidelines of the Foundation Day Lecture, which she delivered to cheering students at her alma mater, Mount Carmel College, on Tuesday morning.

Shaw described India as ripe with opportunity in the bio-technology field. “The field is extremely exciting, because bio-technology pervades every aspect of economics. There are huge opportunities here in India and we need to create a bio-economy.”

Shaw talked about never having been to business school, saying, “I learned on the job, my sleeves rolled up. You pick up things on the way. Everybody knows what profit and loss is!” she said, to a round of laughter.

“It’s common sense, really. I learned the nuances of it on the way, but honestly, a lot of it is b*llsh*t!”

“I founded Bengaluru's first startup and today, this is the startup capital of the world. You can choose to be an entrepreneur, but it all depends on your ability to face failure."
