Vijayawada: Agent dupes 42 people of Rs 1 crore

Each person paid an amount between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh
Vijayawada: Dreams of over 42 persons to work in Israel were shattered after the agent they trusted abandoned them in Mumbai on Sunday. Over 82 persons, all natives of various villages in West Godavari and East Godavari, approached an unauthorised agent D. Ravi Reddy, based in Vijayawada, and a native of Undi village in West Godavari few months ago. While 40 of them managed to go ahead to Israel with the help of other agents 42 others returned to Vijayawada and approached commissioner of police A.B. Venkateswara Rao on Monday morning.
“Since the agent, his wife, father and mother are also in the same business, we trusted them and agreed to pay them the amount,” said a victim. Each person who was promised jobs of plumber, driver, domestic help paid an amount between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh for the flight ticket, passport, visa processing fee and other formalities.
Victims said that they have been cheated to a tune of more than Rs 1 crore by the agent so far.
“We were also given acknowledgement of job confirmation from Israel firms but the agent, in the last minute, duped us and escaped. His wife accompanied him,” a victim who planned to work as driver said.
Commissioner of police Mr Venkateswara Rao, who received the complaint from the victims, said that he would transfer the complaint to West Godavari police.
