Chandrababu Naidu to fix date for water release in Prakasam district

State keen to complete Gundlakamma project before kharif season
Ongole: The state government is making arrangements to complete the construction of Gundlakamma irrigation project to release water during this kharif season to irrigate 80,000 acres in Prakasam district. So far more than 90 per cent of the project work has been completed and the remaining is expected to be completed within one month. The irrigation officials are now concentrating on the distributory channel work and racing against time to complete it.
They have instructed the contractor to complete the work within the stipulated time and are regularly reviewing the progress. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and minister for irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, recently visited the project site and conducted a review meeting with the district administration, instructed the latter to complete the work as early as possible and assured that they would release water this kharif.
They said it was a priority for the government. Mr Devineni is monitoring the progress of the project works so that it is completed on time. Project chief engineer Veera Raju, superintending engineer Ramana Murthy and other engineering officials visited the distributory channels while inspecting the works. Sources in the irrigation department informed that Mr Naidu will conduct a review meeting with the district administration and after that he will fix the date for the release of the water for this kharif.
Mr Ramana Murthy said, “So far, we have completed more than 90 per cent of the project work. We will complete the project works within a month. Kharif season will start in Prakasam district in September. By that time, we will release the Gundlakamma river water, which will irrigate 80,000 acre and solve the drinking water problem as well. The government will decide the date for the release of the water.”
