Seven temples take care of elephants: TB Jayachandra

Belagavi: Seven temples coming under the Muzarai Department are taking care of elephants, minister for law and parliamentary affairs and muzarai T.B. Jayachandra has said.

Replying to G. Madhusudhan of BJP in the Legislative Council, Mr Jayachandra said that the temples that are taking care of elephants are, Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mangalore, Kukke Sri Subramanyaswamy Temple, Sri Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple, Nanjangud, Sri Mookambika Devi Temple, Kollur, Kundapura taluk, Sri Male Mahadeshwara Swamy temple, Kollegal, Sri Siddalingeshara Temple, Yadiyur and Sri Virupaksha Temple, Hampi.

Kateel temple incurs a monthly expenditure of Rs 6,533 on the elephants, Kukke temple Rs 31,000, Nanjangud temple Rs 18,695 by, Kollur temple Rs 35,000 by, MM Hills temple Rs 1.19 lakh, Yadiyur temple Rs 56,300 and Hampi temple Rs 10,000. All the elephants undergo medical check-up regularly, Mr. Jayachandra said.
