Job plan to help agriculture labourers

With the advent of Amaravati, they will lose jobs and are virtually on the roads
Hyderabad: Till yesterday, they were agricultural labourers working in the lush green fields of Guntur and Krishna districts. With the advent of Amaravati, they will lose jobs and are virtually on the roads. Since Kharif has started everywhere except in the 29 villages of the CRDA region, the workers would have got work but as land pooling agreements have come into force from July, they are jobless now.
Understanding their plight, the AP ministry of urban development has prepared an alternative plan for their employment. It has been decided to provide employment for them in the construction industry and municipal services, according to sources.
The CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) has decided to take up the laying of cement roads in villages with the amount sanctioned for the purchase of equipment under MGNREGA and rope in agricultural labour for road works.
Simultaneously, it was decided to extend training to skilled youth on various fronts, according to a senior officer of MUD. The government has identified 53,733 agricultural labourers through a specific survey, who are working in the fields of others and another 11,600 engaged in self-employment.
MUD drew up a plan to take these 65,333 people into construction. “Since several buildings have to be built and municipalities, townships have to be developed, we don’t find it difficult to place them. We have to provide employment to another 35,000 people who have been working as casual labour in other fields. They will be deployed for litter management, drainage works, water works, cleaning of roads etc.,” P. Narayana, minister for municipalities and urban development said. A plan has been prepared to use the funds of panchayats, ULBs, SC and ST sub plans etc.,” he added,
