CBSE to update ranks with fresh Inter marks

Data of 1,188 students were missing from BIE list

Hyderabad: In a reprieve to students, the Central Board of Secondary Education on Thursday agreed to accept the Intermediate marks of the 1,188 TS BIE students whose data was missing, and issue updated fractional ranks to the eligible students on the morning of July 4.

The students can then fill in their choices on the Joint Seat Allocation Authority’s (JoSAA) portal on July 4 and 5 during the first round of counselling itself.

Of the 1,188 students whose data was missing, about 130 students are said to eligible for JEE Main ranks, as per preliminary estimates.

TS Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari admitted that it was a mistake on the part of the TS Board of Intermediate Education in sending the marks.

Several students had reported on Wednesday that they hadn’t received JEE Main ranks despite scoring high marks in Intermediate and the JEE Main exam.

Mr Srihari said TS education ministry principal secretary Ranjeev Acharya had spoken to the CBSE, Central Seat Allocation Authority and Union HRD ministry officials, all of whom had agreed to issue a separate “fractional” rank list to such students.

“Several students were distressed when they came to know that their marks were missing. It was TS Inter Board’s mistake. But their marks have been submitted to the CBSE which is again generating ranks. We have been working on it since the last 24 hours,” he stated.

“On the morning of July 4, fresh ranks will be issued separately to these students and they can exercise options on the 4th and 5th. Our officials were in Delhi and will remain there till July 4. We will make sure no student loses out,” he said.

Students, however, will get fractional ranks and not the conventional ones. For instance, if a student’s rank is between 100 and 101 (based on Inter marks submitted by officials on Thursday), the student would be given a fractional rank of 100.1. July 5 is the last date for the JoSAA filling in of choices.

Details of about 500 students, who gave wrong Inter Board details, will also be corrected.
