Pending projects in RK Nagar constituency to take off

Zone 4 Tondiarpet office of the Chennai corporation will soon take up road relaying work

Chennai: With the R. K. Nagar by-election over, several projects in the constituency temporarily suspended due to the model code of conduct will now take off. The Zone 4 Tondiarpet office of the Chennai corporation will soon take up road relaying work at 611 places and providing LED street lights. Residents hope that Korukkupet Road Over Bridge (ROB) work will be expedited and opened for public use soon.

The ROB work near the Korukkupet railway station originally slated to start in 2006, began only in 2009 after the railways and Chennai corporation came to a mutual agreement and settled land acquisition issues. Since then, the work was moving at a snail’s pace. Traffic had been rerouted. There were frequent change in bus stops putting to hardship commuters. There was a resultant delay in the Road Under Bridge (RUB) work nearby.

Local residents are eager that other projects including the level crossings at Korukkupet, Coronation Nagar and Ezhil Nagar would be completed soon. It may be noted that the Chennai corporation had planned to allocate '114.98 crore for a flyover connecting Ennore High Road and Manali Road junctions.

In view of the by-election, the matter was not discussed in the corporation council meeting.Corporation sources said that the road relaying work would commence in the first week of August.
As far as streetlamps were concerned, areas had been identified to replace sodium vapour lights with LEDs in the newly added portions.
