Techie brings taste to nutritional drugs

Several brain-storming sessions and many trips to foreign markets got Genmedic into existence
Hyderabad: A vast majority of people come to know about the purpose of their life very late or never at all. Some discover it while on the run and change the lives of many in the process.
Amar Reddy, the managing director of Genmedic Healthcare, found his enlightening moment at home. His son Advait’s refusal to take his nutritional supplements, partly because they tasted awful and were not children-friendly, sparked in him a business idea that had come to stay. An engineer by education, he plunged headlong into the computer extravaganza like most of his age, but his mind was elsewhere.
“I joined Infosys in 2000; worked there for four years and later at Cognizant for a year. After completing masters at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, I joined Cognizant again as a Business Strategy Consultant for the pharmaceutical sector. This is the role which was going to change my life,” Mr Reddy said, recalling his rendezvous with pharmaceuticals.
“As part of my job at Cognizant, I was sent to Switzerland to work for Novartis. It was on the foreign land, where my business idea got firmed up. While working for Novartis, I ran into my company’s future investor Corbin Wood. Later at his behest, I quit Cognizant to setup Primus Analytics in 2006 to provide secondary market research data to clients in the US in the pharmaceutical sector.”
While working on Primus Analytics, Mr Reddy got a unique business idea, thanks to his son Advait’s reluctance to take supplements because of their medicinal taste. “We tried all varieties of supplements — syrups, pills, powder. But my son hated all of them, except for gummies. A little research showed that there were no domestic nutritional gummy brands to speak of. As for the global brands, they were not only priced well beyond the reach of the average household, they were also made of gelatin, and were an absolute no-no for the vegetarians in India.”
Several brain-storming sessions and many trips to foreign markets got Genmedic into existence. Meticulous research and development, German expertise and with the right mix of partners, Genmedic was incorporated in 2013. Sales, is a monster many business houses fall prey to, in spite of manufacturing a unique product. All at sea for the first few months in this department, the think tank of Genmedic put their heads together and forged a strategic alliance with Green Gold Animation of Chota Bheem fame.
Mr Reddy manufactures some items (non- drug) at his facility at Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur, RR district. Ahead of the pack in the nutraceutical space by a mile, this company is all ready for a tie-up with the world’s leader in animation. With sights on a larger market world-wide and with an aspiration to move to the next stage vis-
a-vis products, Genmedic all ready, set to go.
