Campaign against girl child abuse in Coimbatore

FLO plans to cover government and government aided schools

Coimbatore: The FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) launched ‘Shakthi’, an awareness campaign on girl child abuse, at the Coimbatore Seva Nilayam, Home for orphaned and destitute girls.

The campaign conducted in association with Art of Living, taught girls about potentially dangerous situation, differentiating between ‘good touch’ and bad touch’, gauging abusive overtures and behavior from close relatives and friends, how to deal with a situation, what to do and whom to contact, their legal rights in such situations, and how to cope with feelings of guilt, shame and alienation in the event of an abuse. Shakthi is part of FLO’s three-year initiative to educate the girl child on issues related to abuse, women rights and remedial actions, thereby empowering them for the future.

As a part of this initiative, FLO will provide training for girls from the 5th-12th grades in various schools. In the first phase of the campaign, FLO plans to cover government and government aided schools in the district, and later fan out to urban schools and private schools.
