Back in the ’60s and ’70s, top Indian actresses like Sharmila Tagore, Asha Parekh, Mumtaz and Saira Banu were the trendsetters and carried their trademark bouffant with elan. Of course, in Hollywood we had the iconic Audrey Hepburn making the bouffant ultra-glamorous. The retro style is making a striking comeback with the current crop of actresses, especially the modern half-bouffant version. For the uninitiated, a bouffant is a style, where the hair is pushed back in a large bulge at the back of the head, and styled to look extremely straight.
From Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez to our very own Tamannaah, Kajal Aggarwal and Tejaswi Madivada, the bouffant is surely a hot favourite this season.
“Retro fashion keeps coming back and the bouffant is one such trend that is a rage among fashionistas. The hairdo is meant specially to give volume to the hair,” says hair stylist, Jagannathan.
