THRISSUR: Suvratha Kumar, a senior civil police officer of the special branch, is now playing the role of a teacher and for a cause. The cop, who is also a member of the shadow police wing, gives lectures on drugs and their addiction in schools and colleges.

Suvratha Kumar had never expected to don this role till the then city police commissioner P. Prakash asked him to give a lecture on ganja and related cases with a power point presentation for a crime conference.

Braving the initial hiccups, he worked day and night and made an engrossing presentation to the officers. In the course of his encounters with ganja cases, he used to store the photographs and details in his phone. He later developed them into an album and for that he bagged a special award.

“This pumped up my confidence and I have been allowed to take classes for the students,” says Suvratha Kumar. He has led around 25 sessions for students in the district.
