SK Mukherjee appointed chief justice of Karnataka High Court

A notification issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated on Wednesday

BENGALURU: Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee has been appointed as the new chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, a notification issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated on Wednesday.

After Justice D.H. Waghela, who was serving as chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, was transferred to the Orissa High Court, Justice S.K. Mukherjee, the senior most judge of the high court, was officiating as acting chief justice.

Born on October 10, 1955, Justice Mukherjee obtained M.A., LL.B. from the University of Calcutta, and later joined legal profession as an advocate in 1982. He practiced mainly in civil and writ matters.

He was elevated as permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court on September 15, 2000 and later took oath as judge of Karnataka high court on April 15, 2015. He was elevated as acting chief justice of the Karnataka high court on June 1, 2015.
