If you raise a hand, we can cut it off, says Abhishek Banerjee

BJP’s police complaint was lodged by party national executive member G.D. Beriwala

Kolkata: The West Bengal BJP on Tuesday filed a police complaint on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, a Trinamul Congress MP, over his inflammatory remarks at a South 24-Parganas public meeting on Monday, where he threatened to “gouge out eyes and chop off hands” if anybody dared to “glare” at the CM.

State BJP chief Rahul Sinha said an FIR was registered at the Jorasanko police station and the party would move the Calcutta high court on Wednesday seeking Mr Banerjee’s arrest.

Mr Abhishek had said on Monday: “As long as Mamata Banerjee is here, one cannot get away with glaring. We can gouge out your eyes and throw them on the streets. If you raise a hand, we can cut it off. Everyone must remember that in Bengal, the people have the last word.”

The BJP’s police complaint was lodged by party national executive member G.D. Beriwala, who referred to the “gouging of eyes and chopping off hand” remarks by Mr Banerjee, asking the police to begin an immediate investigation.
