Mustafizur Rahman swings himself into record books

Bangla bowler only second in history to take five-for in first two ODIs

Mumbai: Though Bangladesh is experiencing monsoons, the national team’s pacer Mustafizur Rahman is in the spring of his cricketing career. The bowler – who took a fifer on debut against India in the first ODI in Mirpur on Thursday – repeated his act on Sunday. He became the second bowler in history to take two consecutive fifers in first two ODI appearances (5/50 and 5/43).

Zimbabwe’s Brian Vitori is the first bowler to taste the feat. His five-for, as luck would have it, came against Bangladesh only (5/30 and 5/20 in 2011).

Nonetheless, Rahman caught attention in his first-ever match after colliding with Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for which he paid a penalty but compensated with his performance.

The Indian batting line-up, considered one of the best in the world, looked stressed against the newbie.

Rahman, who also won the Man of the Match award in his debut match after guiding Bangladesh to a 79-run victory, stuck to his plans and bowled the same length in his second emergence.

This time, even Dhoni could not judge his slower one.
