Yoga Marathon to take place on June 21

Marathon will mark celebration of International Yoga Day

Coimbatore: The city-based Pranava Peetam, founded by Swami Omkar, will organize Yoga Marathon on June 21 (Sunday) to mark the celebration of International Yoga Day. Hundreds of people, who are expected to participate in the yoga marathon, would perform 108 Surya Namaskars (Sun salutations) on that day at Decathlon in Neelambur.

One hundred and eight Surya Namaskar based Yoga Marathon is being organized for the first time in India, the organizers claimed. Practice of Surya Namaskars will create awareness on yoga and healthy life, a release stated. The sun salutations are performed to prove that yoga generates energy and transforms mind into a dynamic one.

Yoga teachers at the Peetam will organize yoga awareness campaigns and perform asanas practices. The programme will commence from 7 am to 11 am on that day. Yoga in India is considered to be around 5,000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. Yoga originated in India when people were used of meditation to transform their body and mind. Launching a particular date of practicing yoga all across the world and celebrating yoga day was initiated by the Indian Prime Minister.
