Hussainsagar road not open yet, must meet NHAI norms

May 31 was the deadline for the Water Board to hand over the road

Hyderabad: The Hussainsagar road, which was dug up for pipeline installation, has not yet been restored. It will take a few more weeks as the stretch falls under National Highway 9, and the restoration should be done according to highway norms.

May 31 was the deadline for the Water Board to hand over the road. However the Board missed its deadline and the works got extended till the first week of June.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which is in-charge of all city roads, will not carry out the road repair works. Instead, the Water Board, which is responsible for the pipeline installation, will hand over Rs 38 lakh to the National Highway Authority for the road’s restoration.

The Hussainsagar stretch, which is the main connectivity between Hyderabad and Secunderabad, has not been disturbed in a few decades. When the digging work was initiated, the traffic was diverted towards Bible House, Lower Tank Bund and then Kavadiguda. Traffic went haywire due to temporary closure of the Tank Bund and Buddha Bhavan roads.

The alternative arrangements resulted in chaos and inconvenienced the public.
