School education officer inspects Bala Vidya Mandir

Officer interacted with parents, teachers, and representatives of the management.

Chennai: The joint director of school education, Mr S. Karmegam, on the directions of the Justice S.R. Singaravelu-chaired private school fee determination committee, conducted a spot inspection of Bala Vidya Mandir school on Thursday, to ascertain complaints lodged by parents against the management. Taking suo motu cognisance after hundreds of parents protested against differential fee being charged, besides poor administrative practices of the school management, the fee determination committee asked the directorate of school education to conduct an inquiry last week.

As the enquiring officer, Mr Karmegam, summoned representatives from the parents and management. He later fixed June 11 for a field inspection of the school. On Thursday, he met and interacted, on separate occasions, with parents, teachers, and representatives of the management.One of the parents, present during the meeting, said they put forth their views to the officer. “We reported to him about the poor management practices adopted by the trust which is running the school. We also reported the poor infrastructure available to students, which does not match the fees charged,” the parent said.

Parents also appealed for refund for the past three years from the school.When contacted. Mr Karmegam replied that he was fulfilling the duty placed on him by the fee committee. “I met with everyone and heard their replies. I shall now compile a report and forward it to the committee at the earliest,” he said.
