Bengaluru: For a party which has consistently been dubbed anti-minority, this could be considered an achievement of sorts. During its much publicised mega membership campaign, the BJP has enrolled nearly 10,000 Muslim members across the state!

The membership campaign is now in the second stage with the party launching an outreach programme to obtain details of its new members many of whom have enrolled making a ‘missed call.” Exact statistics of members belonging to the minority community are not yet available. Party sources told this newspaper that workers had gone knocking on the doors of the minorities to persuade them to become party members. Some active members belonging to the minority community played an active role in enrolling other community members, they revealed.

In Ullesooru village of Shahpur taluk in Yadgir district, active members enrolled more than a hundred Muslim members. “The pin code and polling booth wise segregation of members is going on, once we get booth wise statistics, we will know the exact number of minority community members”, a BJP leader said. The central leadership has declared that nearly 30 lakh Muslims have taken BJP membership across the country.

Meanwhile, the party has kickstarted its outreach programme appointing pramukhs and saha pramukhs. Party members have decided to visit 80,000 houses in the state to get personal details of new members.
