University of Hyderabad bungles on admissions

Scraps courses after holding tests

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad made a major goof up in its admissions this year. The varsity had called for admissions for the year 2015-16 for many courses, including for MTech in materials engineering, mineral exploration and bioinformatics and also for MBA in healthcare and hospital management. However, the administration realised that these courses could not be continued, as they have no AICTE approval yet.

As per a Supreme Court's order of last year, all technical and mandatory courses should get prior approval from the AICTE. When the administration realised their mistake, they decided to scrap admissions to these courses, but the entrance tests and interviews had been conducted, which were attended by many students from other states.

“It is surprising that though the SC judgement was passed last year in April, the university went ahead and published information and criteria in the 2015-16 prospectus and conducted entrance examinations,” said Deepak Kumar, president, UoH SFI unit.

As per a notice uploaded on the results page of the UoH website, the four courses have been scrapped due to “administrative reasons”. An university official said that a meeting would be conducted on Monday to discuss the issue. “The departments will apply for AICTE approval and if they get it, then the courses will be continued,” he said.
