Arya turns pro-cyclist

The actor’s love affair with the sport continued

Arya is known to be a fitness freak and a sports enthusiast. The Raja Rani star was also a passionate footballer, leading his school and college team in many a game. Now, he’s discovered a love for a new sport. The actor will be participating along with his cycling team Ryders Team Jammy, at the prestigious international bike fest —Vätternrundan Race — in Motala, Sweden on 12 and 13 June.

In an exclusive with DC, the Naan Kadavul star opens up as how it all began, “I started cycling when I was asked to lose weight for the film Raja Rani in the flashback portions. I had only 8 weeks time to shed few kilos. I figured nothing but cycling would give me the desired results within such a short period.”

Arya adds, “Cycling helps to burn a lot of calories, and unlike other sports like swimming, it doesn’t cause any pain in the joints. Though I have been cycling right from an early age, it became a serious passion when I began cycling to the shooting spots when I’m in Chennai.”

The actor’s love affair with the sport continued and he formed a team of young professionals who are outside his filmy circle.“After forming the team, we wanted to do something different and that’s when the idea of participating in the prestigious cycling festival came up. It’s called Vätternrundan Race and it happens every year in a town called Motala, in Sweden.

This year is all the more important as it turns out to be their Golden Jubilee year. It’s a race with a distance of 300 kms, encompassing mountains and around the lake Vattern.” “You have 15 hours to complete the whole track and my team has been training for this for the last 8 months. It is the dream of every cyclist to win the medal and certificate awarded at the Vatternrundan - and we will be giving it our best. I hear that over 23,000 riders from across the globe have registered their names this year.”
