Colleges fail faculty test

Even principals double up in more than one college
Hyderabad: Engineering colleges are in the dock again with accusations of faculty members enrolling in more than one college. With inspections of the colleges in progress, the affiliating varsity, JNTU-Hyderabad, has said that a preliminary scrutiny found instances of faculty members registering with multiple colleges. While the exact number of such instances has not been revealed, JNTU-H said notices have been issued to colleges and the faculty members.
Last year, criminal cases were booked against nearly 17 colleges in the state for employing bogus faculty members and, in some cases, those employed in multiple colleges. The JNTU-H says in some cases the same person has been employed as the principal by several colleges.
“On preliminary scrutiny of the applications received from colleges for grant of affiliation and of the faculty registration portal, it was found that several faculty members had registered with more than one college giving false and misleading information,” JNTU-H Registrar Prof N.V. Ramana Rao said.
“All faculty members and principals of the institution, who have registered in more than one college, and all the institutions that have uploaded such information in the affiliation applications are directed to provide explanation within two days, failing which further action would be initiated against the colleges and the individuals immediately,” Prof Rao said.
Engineering colleges have been scampering for faculty and infrastructure in view of the inspections by JNTU-H. The inspections are expected to be completed by mid-June. The faculty registrations portal has received as many as 64,000 applications till now.
The JNTU-Hyderabad Academic Audit Cell also revealed the faculty details at engineering colleges a few days ago. A simple scan shows almost half of them were hired in last three months.
