Land grab: Staff aid grabbers, in dock

Departments to inquire, suspend officials responsible
Hyderabad: Officials of the revenue and stamps and registrations departments, who are resorting to illegal registration of government and private lands in collusion with encroachers and realtors, might face the axe soon. The Telangana government has ordered an inquiry into these irregularities after it received large-scale complaints against some officials for resorting to irregularities in land registrations.
The government, has suspended Shamirpet sub-registrar Subbalaxmi for helping some realtors grab 5.20 acres belonging to an NRI woman by creating fake registration documents. Orders to this effect were issued on Monday. The government has asked respective heads of departments to conduct inquiries into these irregularities and suspend the officials responsible.
Madhavarapu Bharathi, who resides in the US and owns 5.20 acre in Survey No. 393 in Bommarashipeta village of Shamirpet mandal, was shocked to find that her land was sold and registered in someone else’s name
In 2013, realtors had produced another woman in place of Ms Bharathi, placed forged documents stating that she had sold the land to them and got the sale registered. The sub-registrar, without verifying the genuineness of the documents, had allowed the registration. Since then, the land changed multiple hands without the knowledge of Ms Bharathi.
Realtors, in nexus with some officials of the registration office, had tried to mislead the police by manipulating the photo on registration documents. Other officials who assisted the realtors are also likely to be suspended.
Another case involving 156 acre of government land in Gandipet under Rajendranagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district has come to light. The ownership was mentioned even in the Record of Rights (RoR). It was also classified under 22-A of Registration Act, which prohibits fresh registrations unless there are court orders.
