Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah puts rail projects on fast track

Siddaramaiah directed officers of KIADB to expedite the process of acquisition of land for completion of pending projects

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed officers of KIADB to expedite the process of acquisition of land for completion of pending projects of Indian Railways, including doubling of Bengaluru-Mysuru railway track, on Wednesday.

Addressing a meeting with officers of the state government and the railways here, he said the Union government has not framed guidelines for the new land acquisition process.

However, it would be possible to acquire land under rules of KIADB. The projects discussed today include Bengaluru-Hassan, Gadag-Wadi and Bengaluru-Chamarajnagar, Bidar-Gulbarga, Bagalakote-Kuduchi, and Tumakuru-Raidurga.

With regard to doubling of Bengaluru-Mysuru tracks, the Chief Minister informed that he had spoken to the deputy commissioner of Mandya shifting of Tippu Armory, and that work would be completed soon. Besides, a small chunk of land near Kunigal has to be purchased for completing Bengaluru-Hassan line, which should be completed immediately, Mr Siddaramaiah told the officials.

Official sources said Mr Siddaramaiah also asked officers of railways to consider employment opportunities for those who would be forced to part with their land for railway projects. In all, over 5000 acres would be acquired for these projects, sources added
