Former TRAI chairman Pradip Baijal gives BJP ammo on Congress

Communications minister said Mr Baijal’s claims reflected how UPA functioned

New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday claimed the revelations made by former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) chairman Pradip Baijal in his book on the 2G scam makes it clear that the erstwhile Congress-led UPA dispensation was a “coalition in corruption”.

The Congress dismissed Mr Baijal’s charges that then PM, Dr Manmohan Singh, had warned him of harm if he did not cooperate on 2G telecom licenses, as “imaginary, false and baseless”.

“The revelation makes it clear that it was a coalition in corruption,” environment minister Prakash Javadekar said in Coimbatore. Communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Mr Baijal’s claims in his book reflected how the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government functioned.

Speaking in Bengaluru, Mr Prasad said Dr Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi had to face a lot of shame because of the 2G scam.
