No scope for weakness here: Himmanshoo Malhotra

Actor talks about Nach Baliy and matching steps with wife Amruta Khanvilkar

Himmanshoo Malhotra talks about Nach Baliye, the thrill of reality shows and how he’s trying very hard to match up to his wife Amruta Khanvilkar’s moves.

What made you say ‘yes’ to Nach Baliye?
It’s a great opportunity to showcase one’s talent as a dancer. So when the opportunity knocked on my door, there was no way I wanted to miss it!

What according to you are your strengths and weaknesses as a couple?
Amruta is a fabulous dancer and artiste. We all know that from the work she has done in Marathi and Hindi films. So there’s no room for weakness there. It’s only strength all the way! But I have to work doubly hard to match up to her standards, which is good in a way, since it pushes me to raise the bar.

How did you prepare for the show?
We had approximately 25 days for training with our respective choreographers before the show began. They acquainted us with different dance styles apart from intense workouts, which helped our bodies prepare for the weeks to come.

Do you enjoy reality shows more than daily soaps?
Absolutely. There’s better scope to showcase one’s talent here. Also, here people know you and respect you by your name, not by a particular character you portray on screen.

Are there any dance forms you are excited to learn or are already good at?
I would love to learn classical and hip-hop. I enjoy contemporary and Latin dances.

How comfortable are you with viewers getting a peek into your personal life through reality shows?
As long as I stand honest and transparent, I am okay with the fact that viewers are getting to know us in a way such that they will be able to relate and identify with us more. Here we are real people, not acting, like in a TV show.
