Salem: An 11-year-old boy and his father drowned in a well in Salem district on Sunday. Police said Murugavel, 42, a farmer from Siruvachur near Thalaivasal took his son Arun Karthick, a class 5 student to a well in his farm to teach him swimming.
“While learning to swim, Arun Karthick began to drown. Shocked on seeing his son drown, Murugavel also jumped into the water, but unfortunately he too drowned,” police said.On hearing their loud cries, the family members and neighbours rushed to the well and attempted to rescue them.
On receivinginformation, the fire service personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of father and son after battling for nearly three hours.The Thalaivasal police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
