Vijayawada at 47 degree, hottest in the last 13 years

The minimum temperature was 29.40C on Saturday
Vijayawada/Guntur: Vijayawada witnessed a record temperature of 47.30C on Saturday and it was the hottest day in the last 13 years in the history of the city.
While the maximum temperature recorded was 47.20C on Friday, mercury soared up to 47.30C on Saturday causing more trouble to the citizens.
According to Indian Meteorology Department, the highest temperature recorded in the city was 48.80C on May 11, 2002 followed by 470C on May 25, 2013. The highest temperature last year was 440C.
The minimum temperature was 29.40C on Saturday. Meanwhile the scorching heatwaves have killed nearly 55 people in Guntur district in the past two days and according to reports, 40 people died on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, as many as 15 old people died due to heatwave in the district. The day temperatures were registering at 470C in various areas of Guntur district.
According to reports, the highest number of deaths were registered in Pedakurapadu as four senior citizens died unable to bear the scorching day temperature.
