You can now make STD calls without prefixing ‘0’ or ‘+91’

This has been done in order to implement full mobile number portability

Mumbai: Until now, it was mandatory to prefix a ‘0’ or ‘+91’ to an STD mobile number. However, in order to implement complete mobile number portability (MNP), various telecom operators have simplified the process of dialling an STD mobile number. According to a report on NDTV, several telecom operators have now made it possible for your users to dial mobile numbers outside their home network without prefixing an STD code. NDTV tested this on numbers from various networks, such as Airtel, Vodafone and MTNL.

However, there are chances that some operators haven’t yet activated the simplified dialling. But they shall soon make it applicable, as the full mobile number portability deadline comes into effect by July.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP), essentially allows a user to port the same number to a different network, as long as they change it to an operator within the home circle. For example, if a user has Mumbai’s Vodafone number, they can keep using the same number and port their network to Airtel’s Mumbai network. However, full MNP gives a user the freedom to port their number to an STD network as well.
